Great Sand Dunes National Park
Great Sand Dunes National Park is located in Southern Colorado - the park is open 24/7, year round. The day we visited the park it was drizzling, but it was the only day we could visit. Joe and Emma were with us. It was incredibly beautiful because the rain had colored the sand in ways we would not have seen on a sunny day (see above).
They allow visitors to hike AND they allow sand-sledding and snowboarding on the dunes!

1. During the spring/summer, there is a creek that forms at the foot of the Sand Dunes, so it is like going to the beach! 2. We understand that stargazing is excellent here - would love to come back and photograph the Milky Way. |

8 on the “We’re going to miss this place” scale. We weren't able to sled or board because of the rain. That looks like fun... |
