Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is held annually in early October. This was one of the most spectacular events we have ever experienced. There are over over 600 hot air balloons from all over the world that are launched from a field size equivalent to 54 football fields.

The best part: The spectators are allowed on the field with the balloons! It is truly an event not to miss - a photographer’s feast! In addition, there is a fascinating Hot Air Balloon Museum near the grounds that provides a history of this event and hot-air ballooning.

Biking:

Bring or rent a bike - it's a must! Albuquerque has miles of paved bikes trails.  We found the Paseo Bosque trail incredible, as it took us through much of the city and surrounding area.

Notes:

If you do decide to attend the Balloon Fiesta:

  1. Plan well in advance.  Hotels were books for miles around (including Santa Fe).
  2. Parking around the Festival is near impossible. We used the park and ride service and it was well organized.

Our Rating:

9 on the “We’re going to miss this place” scale. We loved Albuquerque and New Mexico in general.

RV Park:

Review: Very nice RV Park and kid friendly (Emma was with us). Friendly, helpful staff. It was located on the outskirts of town, right off Route 40.
